Buying, Repairing Broken TV Screens
Question
I often see plasma and LCD tvs, for sale, on ebay, for a fraction of the cost, because the screen is shattered, or "glass broken." These units can, literally, be picked up for tens of dollars.

My question is, is there any, within reasonable cost, ways of repairing these?

As an example, I can purchase a Panasonic PT-50PD3 for less than $100, but the screen is broken. Are parts available and is it worth it?
Answer
A plasma TV has two glass layers. The front glass provides protection for the inner glass, and the inner glass is the plasma panel. In most cases of broken plasma screens, the inner glass is broken.

Panasonic sells replacement parts for model PT-50PD3-P. The front glass is $3389, and the plasma panel is $4003.03. Those are the two most expensive parts in the TV.

An LCD TV has just one layer, the LCD panel. For example, the Panasonic TC-32LX60 replacement LCD panel is $1543.68. That is the most expensive part in the TV.

The cost is not reasonable.
