Developer Curious About Console RAM Specs
Question
Hi. I'm into developing games and I was wondering about consoles RAM specs. When using a "Load on the fly" technique for dealing with graphics, my current game project can use up to 1,500mb. This new action PC title is played in full screen with high colors. Loading graphics on the fly insures that only the graphics needed at the time are restored to original size, that's the way professional developers control RAM usage. Given the fact I've been careful enough with RAM usage, my conclusion is that consoles must have around about 2.0 GB of RAM or physical memory.

What are the RAM specs for PS2 and the newer consoles like PS3?

Answer
Console RAM Capacity
  • PS2 = 32MB
  • PS3 = 512MB (256MB Main + 256MB Video)
  • Xbox = 64MB
  • Xbox 360 = 512MB
  • Nintendo Wii = 88MB
You may want to consider compression and/or lower resolution images.
