| Converting Basic Cable to Component Video | | Question | | I have a HDtv - Sony Bravia - we connected two 5 port cables to the back of the digital cable box and ran through the walls (not easy) to the back of the TV. Now - we are thinking of trying to save the over $100 digital bill and get basic cable. Problem is - trying to find a device to plug the single cable wire into and have the 5 cable wire out of. I was trying to avoid having to run a single cable through the wall again to the back of the tv which is heavy and above a fireplace. I have a 5 cable audio/video coming from the back of the tv through walls and out behind the current digital box where a single cable is wired into. Does such a device exist? | | Answer | I assume that the wire running through the wall is terminated at the wall with five female RCA connections on a wall plate. Otherwise, the solution is slightly different.
You need two F Female to RCA Male Adapters. Plug one on each end on the walls using the same color from the five ports. Then connect two standard RF cables. One will make a U-turn from the source wall into the adapter. The other will go from the other adapter to the TV's cable or antenna input.
[Cable TV Wall] --- [5 Port Wall] --- [TV]
This hasn't been tested in the PVC Labs, but my simulated model shows it to work.
Know that there is no HD programming with basic cable.
